Weekend Chicago Shootings Leave Dozens Injured, 5 Dead

GunThese are numbers that defies any sense. More than two dozen people injured by gunfire, with 5 left for dead – all taking place in just 3 days.

The shootings that took place over the weekend happened throughout the city. As initially reported by the Chicago Sun-Times, Friday evening a 43-year old man was shot dead in West Side Austin. Shortly after, a 17-year old boy was shot in the head near Jefferson Park. Less than 24 hours later, a 45-year old woman was gunned down on the Southwest Side of town near Little Village.

These are only three of the victims claimed by the city’s increasingly violent atmosphere. In a recent article by the Daily Beast, Chicago was shown to be the mass-shooting capital of the country. 2015 has claimed hundreds of lives, with areas such as West Garfield Park and West Englewood being particularly hard hit.

Unfortunately, what statistics fail to show are the number of innocent children and families involved in these senseless murders. Radical change is needed to end violence in Chicago.
